A pantry that matches your cooking
A useful pantry is a small collection you actually reach for.
Start with three meals
Write down three meals you make regularly. Identify ingredients they share, such as rice, beans, pasta or a favorite spice. Those repeat ingredients deserve the easiest-to-reach space.
Shop for a purpose
Give an unfamiliar ingredient a first use before buying it. Decide which meal it belongs in and what you might do with the remainder. A smaller package can be the more practical choice when you are learning.
Keep the labels
Arrange older purchases in front of newer ones and leave storage instructions visible. Label decanted containers with the original ingredient and relevant date information. Keep a short list of things to use next.
A ten-minute reset
Choose one shelf rather than the whole cupboard. Remove what does not belong, wipe the shelf, and group ingredients by the way you cook. Leave some empty space so you can see what you have.
Keep it practical: pick one idea, try it with a familiar meal, and note what you would repeat.
